Old Blue

Jim’s thumping on the front porch
wearing holes in his guitar
cheap copy of a Martin
it reminds him of Blue
both gifts at his wedding
Jim’s been there ever since
framed with beauty in a white wedding gown
until the hound found her with big muddy paws

CHORUS:
Oh Blue you good dog you

Misty memory of cotton
wrinkled hand fret steel guitar
Jim sees her rockin’
with three children and a dog
big brown eyes in love with a song

CHORUS

The only thing Jim now sings
“god bless her soul”
now Blue’s joined her
where good dogs go
He dug her grave with a silver spade
and laid Blue beside her with a golden chain
